Boxes, Boxes, and More Boxes!

They came..they saw...they conquered! First thing on Frantic Friday morning (7:20 am to be exact) the movers showed up at my front door, boxes and packing tape in hand!  I am going to backtrack a little bit since I feel so much has been going on the last couple weeks!

In the couple weeks preparing for the move we had Matt's 30th birthday party pub crawl (also celebrating our friend's Kyle and Dave's birthdays), my last day at my internship, Matt's actual birthday, and my nephew "C" moved in with us on that same day.

So, the process of getting my nephew to move in with us has been a tedious one.  He lives in Louisiana with his mom (my sister) and just recently turned 18. For a long time now he has been wanting to enlist in the Marines. Well, lucky him, his new uncle just so happens to be the Executive Officer at the recruiting station out here!! Obviously, everything done to help him has been and will be done by the book, but it doesn't hurt to have someone be able to guide him in what he needs to do to get things started (ie. school transcripts, medical records, etc).  So after two or three weeks of trying to get "C" and his mom to get all the paperwork Matt needed, Matt went and bought a plane ticket to get him up here with us while he finished his last credits of schooling (he did a home schooling back in La.). That was Friday the 13th.

On Saturday the 14th was Matt's pub crawl I decided to put together. I think it was a hit! Everyone had a great time, no one got too crazy or out of control, and I managed to get birthday boy home in one piece! haha

Tuesday the 17th was Matt's birthday and I spent literally all day in the kitchen baking. Me..baking! The only thing I ever really bake are my snickerdoodle cookies. This year for Matt I first made chocolate cupcakes (I just used the box) with homemade Oreo buttercream from a recipe I got off of Pinterest and I brought those into his office for a little afternoon treat!  When I got home I immediately started on the cake. Again, I used the boxed chocolate cake but like before I made homemade frosting. Since Matt loves peanut butter and chocolate combinations, I made a peanut butter frosting with a chocolate and peanut butter glaze oozed on top (again, thanks to Pinterest). It was, by far, one of the best cakes we've ever had. Yum!!  "C" flew in that night so he got to celebrate with us!

Two days later was my last day at the internship. "C" started school and going to Matt's office to do practice tests and physical training.  That weekend we spent sorting out the apartment. Tuesday the 24th, Matt left for Quantico to train for a rugby game he got chosen to play on the All Marine Rugby team versus the Royal British Marines. The game was yesterday and luckily he is coming back to me  with just a broken finger (an injury that occurred 10 minutes into his very first practice..of course!). With him being gone for rugby, that left me by myself to deal with the movers. Needless to say, I was a big ol' stress ball all week, trying to get the apartment and myself situated, taking nephew back and forth to school, making sure Petrie's documents and other things are in order, and the ever-so-stressful packing of my suitcases. How am I supposed to know what I'm going to want to wear for the next 65+ days?!  I was so thankful when Frantic Friday finally came along.

After many of the "horror" stories I have heard about movers not coming on time, sometimes not showing up at all, I found myself very lucky that they came first thing in the morning. There were four of them and as they entered the apartment they greeted me with their names and a handshake and immediately set to work. I tried to offer many times to help out (I felt bad that they were boxing up all the stuff, I didn't mind giving a helping hand!) but they kept telling me to just relax and they had it covered. (don't mind if I do). Come 3:00pm they carted off the list items and went on their way. My apartment now consists of 2 air mattresses, an old tv, cable boxes and internet (thank goodness!). oh, and all our food. Definite plus.  The hard part is done. The next hard part is the actual moving day on July 3rd. That is 64 days from now. Time is flying! Reality is still slowly, but surely, setting in. I don't think it's really going to hit me until we say our goodbyes to our families in a few weeks. I don't want to think about that right now.

Anyway, that's the skinny! I really really really want to discipline myself into blogging more so my entries are always long catch-ups!  So, sorry if this blog seems a little disjointed..that's the story of my mind right now! haha!

Counting Down The Days..

We are back from our amazing (and much needed) trip to Disney World!! It was just the thing to do before we come back to California and start on this whirlwind of a move.  I've downloaded a few widgets on my cell phone to show my multiple countdowns:

# of Days Until Movers Come: 21
# of Days Until Move Out of Apt and into a Friends: 35-40
# of Days Until Visiting East Coast: 42
# of Days Until the Big Move: 87

I will definitely not be bored in the upcoming weeks! On top of that, the hubby is working hard on helping my nephew enlist in the Marines, which means there is a chance he may move up here while the strings are being pulled.  After looking at the to-do's I realized that it is a little unrealistic of me to keep my internship. I put in my "notice" last week saying that April is my last month. I'm only working a few days a week as it is, and knowing that I am going to be taking off to help pack for the movers, going on an east coast vacation for 15 or so days, I feel like I can't put in the 110% that I initially wanted to.

Other things weighing on the mind? Well, let's see, there is the whole talk of when to start a family!  When I went to do all my medical prescreening I also got the doc to prescribe me more birth control (I think I touched on this topic a few posts ago), so instead of getting one pack and refilling monthly, I got three pill packs at once and I can refill down the road when I need to again.  I am on pack 2 of 3. Matt and I decided that once we are done with the third, then we are done with the pills and are just going to play things by ear from there! The thought terrifies me but at the same time it's all I can think about and I am actually more excited as time goes by! Now, this doesn't mean we are going to seriously start trying before the move. I know, for me, I don't want the pressure on, so that's why we are just going to play things by ear. We already have a list of baby names we like. We both agreed we are ready for whatever comes our way. So, now I just want to relax and enjoy the ride. Whatever happens, happens :)   I think it's funny that I am convinced I am going to be surrounded by boys and Matt is certain we are going to have beautiful girlie girls (and to his horror, little mini Laurens! lol He says that in the sense that if they look anything like me, he might have to invest in a shot gun hahaha)  He is going to be an amazing dad, and I, for one, cannot wait to see him in action.
